In this e-learning you will gain insight and practical tools to purposefully build resilience. You will learn how the body, brain, and environment together influence mental resilience, and how to support clients in strengthening it through small, achievable steps.
In this e-learning, we will explore lectures by Rachel Thibeault, a leading expert in resilience and psychosocial care. Rachel Thibeault is a Full Professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Ottawa, Canada. With her extensive background in occupational therapy, psychology, and community development, Dr. Thibeault brings unique insights into how resilience can be nurtured and strengthened. Her work emphasizes the power of community, meaning-making, and personal agency in fostering resilience, especially in hard-to-access settings.

Leerdoelen
With this e-learning, we contribute to increasing knowledge around resilience and how mental health professionals can support patients to increase their resilience. Upon completion of this e-learning, you will be able to:
- Define the concept of resilience and explain why it should be built when there is no crisis;
- Name and apply different physical and mental strategies to improve resilience and explain and practice them to and with patients;
- Explain what is meant by 'microsolutions' and its importance;
- Explain the significance of sleep and dreams in relation to resilience and describe the concept of cognitive load and its effects on mental states;
- Explain the four mind states, give examples and relate this to the degree of stress experienced;
- Explain the concept of hormetic stress and give examples;
- Name the difference between compassion and empathy and describe what is meant by (self) compassion and the compassion protocol and what impact this has on both giver and recipient;
- Explain what is meant by the five categories of 'eudemonic' resilience building activities and give examples of them.
